COLORADO
R&D COMPANY ANNOUNCES ENTREPRENEURIAL PROGRAM
FOR TECHNOLOGY RESEARCHERS AND INVENTORS
Astralux
Entrepreneurial Program Helps Tech Researchers and Inventors Conceive and
Grow Businesses Based on their Early-Stage Technologies
Boulder,
Colorado, April 7, 2005 — Astralux today announced the formal
unveiling of its “Entrepreneurial R&D” program. The program
is designed to help entrepreneurial-minded researchers and inventors build
businesses based on their early-stage technology ideas. According to Dr. Rande
Treece, Astralux President and CEO, “We surveyed the landscape for launching
new technology companies and concluded that the business environment for
start-ups can be rather daunting even for veteran entrepreneurs. In response
we designed
a program to support bright and energetic researchers and inventors in
the process of nurturing their early stage technology ideas, leading to commercialization
in an orderly and secure way.”
Astralux’s “Entrepreneurial R&D” program presents an
attractive option for would-be technology entrepreneurs to build technology
businesses based on their early stage ideas. The program allows principal
investigators to develop their technologies within the framework of an established
company. Funding is available for selected ideas and administrative support
functions are provided. It’s a viable commercialization path for tech-savvy
entrepreneurs who want to minimize personal risk, and maximize their
ability to focus on developing their technologies.
The core Astralux organization is small, though its entrepreneurial program
is already generating impressive results. The company’s success has
earned a ranking as one of the fastest growing in the region. Astralux used
its Entrepreneurial R&D process to spin off a new company in 2001. Starting
with a University of Colorado Professor, an Astralux employee, and an
idea for a new type of transistor, PowerSicel was launched in 2001 with
investment
from ITU Ventures. ITU Ventures, a venture capital firm with offices
in Denver, remains a strategic partner in the Astralux entrepreneurial
program.
Interested researchers and inventors are invited to contact Astralux for
further information about the program. If their technology idea meets eligibility
requirements, options for collaboration can be discussed. Such options
may include the principal investigator formally joining Astralux, though some
entrepreneurs may choose to remain with their current employers.
Astralux Inc., established in 1992, is a Boulder, Colorado-based research
firm originally founded to research and develop opto-electronic materials
and devices.
Over time the company has expanded its business to include R&D in a broad
range of advanced technologies with the objective of conceiving, growing,
and launching new businesses to bring best-of-breed innovations to market.
