Astralux Track Record

The core Astralux organization is small, though its entrepreneurial program has generated impressive results. The company’s success has earned a ranking as one of the fastest growing in the region. Astralux used its Entrepreneurial R&D process to spin off a new company in 2001. Starting with a University of Colorado Professor, an Astralux employee, and an idea for a new type of transistor, PowerSicel was launched in 2001 with investment from ITU Ventures. ITU Ventures, a venture capital firm with offices in Denver, remains a strategic partner in the Astralux entrepreneurial program. Three-year-old PowerSicel was purchased in early 2005 for $5.4 million by Advanced Power Technology.

Forming a spin-off company is only one commercialization option. For example, entrepreneurs and Astralux management may in some cases opt to keep operational business units within the Astralux organization. Multiple commercialization paths exist to ensure the best fit between technologies and business structures.
