History of Astralux Astralux, Incorporated was formed in 1991 by Drs. Jacques and Ethel Pankove with a mission to develop wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN and SiC) for the high-temperature electronics, opto-electronics, and communications market place. Seed funding was received from contracts with the government (NASA, DoD, and NSF). The company has continued to build upon the early funding by developing new technologies. The Company has 7 issued patents and other patents pending covering a wide spectrum of semiconductor materials and device technologies. Since 1992 Astralux has maintained a leadership position driving the science behind key material and device development technologies. Astralux successfully spun off PowerSiCel in 2001 to commercialize some of Astralux's transistor technology. Powersicel was later purchased by Advanced Power Technologies in 2005 for over $5 million. In 2001 (and every year since), Astralux was recognized in the Mercury 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies in Boulder County for its outstanding revenue growth. Astralux, Inc. has enjoyed positive revenue growth for the last 5 years. Dr. Rande Treece purchased Astralux in early October of 2004. With the new ownership and the creation of the Entrepreneurial R&D program, Astralux looks to concentrate more on commercialization. |
